A lot of large solar flares and absence of sunspots to date on our sun could be affecting the upper atmosphere in pockets seen in the farther Northern hemisphere, but you would think that this would be longer lasting like the Aurora Borealis.

It seems pretty clear at this point that it was a failed Russian rocket test.

It sure looked cool, though. I think I would have freaked if I had been there to see it. I once saw a Russian booster rocket re-enter the atmosphere. It was the most astonishing thing I've ever seen in the sky and at the moment I had no idea what I was witnessing. I'm sure my imagination would have run wild if I had seen this one, as well. :sunny:
