Apparently this is the earth obscuring the view of the sun. I think the scope is set behind the earth looking at the sun and for the last month or so the earth drifts into view once a day and blocks out the shot of the sun.

I can't yet work out why the covering starts at one angle then comes off at a different angle but then i don't know if the scope rotates or moves during the 'eclipse'

Surely some :ugeek: can throw a little 3d animation together which perfectly reflects and explains the above happenings but until then i'll stick with the version in my imagination and claim mystery solved on this little oddity. :flop:

Not to worry tho, there's still plenty of mystery left for us to pour our investigative minds into, take a look at this vid, about half way thru, after debunking a little madcap comet elenin claim he goes on to point out something strange happening on venus :look:
