Thank you slushpup for initiating this thread. The crop circle phenomenon is my area of active "armchair" research. I have been earnestly studying this phenomenon for about the last nine years. I live in the US, but if I lived in the UK I would be an active researcher. I participated in a crop circle tour in Wiltshire in 2007 and I am planning to go back again this summer. I have given lectures about this phenomenon, and I would like to recommend the BLT Research website for the best overview of the scientific research done on crop circles.
The bottom line is that humans with planks or rollers are NOT responsible for the genuine phenomenon. Humans can make reasonable facsimilies of genuine crop circles given adequate time and daylight working conditions. There are by now about 80 eyewitness reports of the formation of crop circles which involve balls of light, or in some cases shafts of light originating from the sky. There is photographic evidence of solid UFOs around crop circles. My conclusion is that the Circlemakers are technologically and spiritually advanced non-human entities. My bias is that the Circlemakers are physical ETs which are relatively close galactic neighbors, though other possibilities are that they are interdimensional beings or even humans from the future.
How might technologically and spiritually advanced ETs initiate contact with the human populace; a species which through their observation is well known for its hostility and aggressiveness?
1) They might use a contact modality totally original to the imaginings of human beings (instead of via radio waves as SETI expects).
2) They might use a contact modality that gradually raises humanities' collective awareness as to the truth of their existence without causing fear or panic, but through thoughtful observation, scientific evaluation and debate.
3) They might use a modality that bypasses the possibility of censorship by the government or scientific establishment, so that the message is there for all to see and study--especially via the sharing of information through our so-far uncensored internet.
4) They might demonstrate a gradual increase in the complexity of the messages as they recognize increasing human attention and awareness. They might likely rely on the universal language of mathematics.
5) They might do so in such a way that the scientific investigation of the messages would indicate that the sender's level of understanding of physics and the control of energy is vastly superior to ours. Yet their control of this technology is being directed in a benign, beautiful, even benevolent way.
The scientific investigation of crop circles has revealed electromagnetic, soil and plant anomalies that cannot be reproduced through any means of mechanical flattening. Many formations have also been shown to demonstrate an amazing grasp of mathematics and geometry--even as Dr. Gerald Hawkins proved-- new theorems of geometry never before published in any textbook of geometry ancient or modern.

I have seen experiments on crop circles, and they have strange EM fields around them, as well as the crop has been Genetically Modified, also they have magnetic properties to the crop itself, and I seen the wheat itself been deflected by magnet. I was like wow that's not normal lolololol... also some people have found strange coins in them and they were very pure gold, silver etc, very hard to make. As well as there are small metal beads, like the metal in the field clumped up from strong forces of em waves. Even military helicopters checking them out, and also chasing small probes.

Try do all that with a piece of wood and string.. Impossible.....

Plus that one with the Alien Face and circle crop, that was next to a SETI antenna dish, they sent a message to space, and the crop was the reply.

Ive drove past loads of circles over time, think next time ill stop and have a look, i lost intrest in these things after seing that vid of "orbs creating a crop circle" that turned out to be CG. I liked those vids though Slushpup the hidden designs in crop circles.

Could these phenomena not be created by orbiting satellites firing tightly focused microwave beams (MASERS) following a computer-controlled template? Some of those crop circle patterns remind me of geometric 'sculptures' created by computer-controlled rapid prototyping machines!

some people are capable of creating very complex crop circles, but the "alien face" crop circle must be 2 difficult to make without anyone noticing it...

Indeed, microwave energy is thought to be involved in the formation of crop circles. Microwave radiation has been shown experimentally to cause the observed plant stem node elongation and bending. It has been shown to cause the normally brittle stem of the canola plant to become supple. Canola has a nearly quarter-inch thick stem that cannot be bent more than 45 degrees without snapping. In genuine formations, canola is laid over at 90 degrees parallel to the ground with no breakage of the stem and no damage to the delicate yellow flowers. This is why human hoaxers have never made a formation in canola.
However, microwave radiation cannot explain how the crops are made to fall precisely into the observed complex geometric patterns. Two theories are ultra- precise control of the local gravitational field, and/or ultra-precise control of highly contained rotating plasma vortexes. In many formations there are layers of crop laid in different directions indicating ultra-precise timing of the control of the involved energies as well.
