Some things are shared with other animals, especially other mammals. Here is my interpretation:

- Perhaps a soul (shared with horses and dogs?)
- Self awareness (shared with a few animals)
- Opposing thumbs (shared with our mammal cousins...)

Here is the crux...
- Extreme dexterity with our hands
- Ability to adapt
- The need to explore and wonder
- Imagination
- Ability to think logically and to reason
- Ability to control emotion

This is not a complete list by any means and I believe it's the combination of all the traits together that makes us human.

Is our behavior really more than a matter of animal instinct? From gorillas that use sign language to make obscene suggestions to pinheaded people who can’t use language at all, pigs who have learn to hoover and sheep who fall in love, what really sets us apart from the beasts?

What is it that separates us from our animal cousins and makes us essentially human? For centuries, philosophers and archaeologists have asked this question. Is it our big intelligent brain?

what do you think?

Is it our big intelligent brain?

Is it our big intelligent brain?

Is it our big intelligent brain?

:headscratch:

This question is the answer; thinking we have/are intelligence;

Everything in the universe has extremes, and that applies directly to our own existence. We had many grim examples of human misfits...monsters throughout history and that is always going to be part of our humanity. We are all capable of atrocities, but most of us have empathy for one another. Thank God!

IMO empathy is a free will choice, and so.
I am grateful to have the opportunity to choose that way of being.
But if god is the creator of everything, then what need is there to thank oneself.
Nor be sorry for one's existence.

Let go of the ego, and be thankful for not having anything to be sorry about.

Are we not missing an important aspect?...
being human is not who we really are, being human is just an experience.
Going on what alexrubic said, amazing post mate,we are no different from the animal kingdom, the plant world and so forth as all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration,right?..everything is energy and came from the same original source,we are all light beings harvesting starlight as carl sagan said(sort of). What i am trying to say is that we are all the same, you,me,lizard, insect, dung beetle etc etc... the important thing to remember is becoming conscious that you can manipulate your reality through real intent, the power of the mind, connected to the heart. We can and do do this every second of everyday.
So i am a human being, yes but that is not who i am,i am the rock, the ship the land...to sort of quote yoda from star wars which to me offers the best explanation of 'it all'.But remember we are not human.imho
