I'm going to ask you, who do you think are the most evil dictators of the century and beyond and why? What makes them evil to you, and what are they well known for? You can talk about the Mafia etc.

And of course to add to it, who do you think is the best white knight of the century, and what makes him so great?

Vlad Dracula


More commonly known as "Vlad the Impaler", his sadism and brutality were so deep that they became the basis for the modern legend of Count Dracula, the vampire. Vlad Dracula lived from 1431-1476 in Transylvania, and well deserved his reputation for cruelty. The name "Dracul" in Romanian means both "Dragon" and "Devil", and with the addition of the honorific "-a" at the end, changes the meaning of Vlad Dracula's name to mean, "Vlad, Son of the Devil"

Vlad Dracula abhorred weakness. To cleanse his kingdom of those he considered weak, he formed a plan. He invited the 'unproductive' members of his society including the lazy, the ill, the handicapped, and the poor to a feast in the Great Hall of Tirgoviste. Once the 'guests' were sated and drunk, Vlad Dracula boarded up the great hall locking everyone inside, then burned it to the ground.

During the festival of St. Bartholomew, Vlad ordered the impalement of 30,000 merchants for disobedience. As a warning to all, the rotting bodies were left outside of the city. Impalement was an extremely cruel and painful death. The victim was tied and dangled above a thick wooden stake, which was inserted through the anus for men and the vagina for women. The person's own body weight would slowly drag the body down the stake, causing it to penetrate ever deeply. Death took many hours.

So far I'm going with Vlad the Impaler, and I have read up on him, he has probably done the worst so far. Is there anyone that can beat that. Hitler is also right up there with Vlad.

Tough question. The twentieth century was awash with dictators. I'd probably go for Franco.

Mao Tse Tung (China - 1949 to 1976) is clearly the leader in this category. Mao's "Great leap forward Mao's policies and political purges from 1949 to 1975 are widely believed to have caused the deaths of between 50 to 70 million people
