Actually, for me, no one group or artist stands out above the rest for the next 3 decades. There were a lot of great ones... hundreds actually.
My tastes started going back in history after about the mid-80's - now I prefer jazz, blues, roots and world music from the 20's to the 60's.
My nomination for greatest musician of the 20th century: Louis Armstrong
