Who should represent humanity at first contact?

Been thinking about this a lot, if we had first major contact I think the military, politicians and science folks are exactly the wrong type of person to represent humanity. However, if its a so called "ordinary" person, would they be suitable either? Imagine some one like Homer or Peter Griffin being Earth's representative!
Shouldn't someone set up a first contact group and how would we decide who's in it? :nails:

What would a representative for humanity do? Just on the face of it - I am not sure I would want the job, not that anyone would ever offer. Just think, old people are set in their ways, young people are too gullible, the weak can be bribed, the strong would probably start an unwinnable war with them. And besides, the governments of earth would never back up such a representative. To them, he would be the laison in order to direct those beings what the governments of earth wanted from those first contact beings.

On those grounds, maybe one representative would never be adequate. Maybe several people from more than one group would be more acceptable? People who offset each others bad characteristics.

I am not sure a volunteer would have humanitys best interests in mind. Hmmmm? Maybe we should nominate a rabbi, a priest, and a baptist minister? That oughtta keep things tied up for awhile? LOL
