For example: we would seldom feel our relationship wioth our mother or sister is complicated, a relationship with a wife or girlfriend may indeed seem complicated, a relationship with a daughter takes on a whole new meaning of complication depending on her age (similar issues to sons btw), and a relationship with a friend may be a lot less complicated... trust me I have relationships with all the above categories...

I think that the complication may stem from our expectations from the person, how much we rely on that person, the nature of the relationship etc etc.. many factors will determine the perceieved complication. There fact that many men seem to find 'women' complicated when in a boy/girl friend husband/wife (intimate partner) relationship would likely stem from the expectations we perceieve from our 'close' partner... and the expectation at different levels.. we often have less complications with those from whom we have fewer expectations, like our mother, sister, friend etc...

Naturally I generalise substantially in my comments and there are many issues to consider, however, I find that if you eliminate or lessen the expectations, the complications often decrease as well...

But thats just me...

Not just you, I agree that expectations and assumptions you have for your partner can complicate the situation if it is done out of fear, meaning if you expect the other one to fill in what you don''t already have yourself.

Fear should never be a part of the equation in a relationship (IMO)...

Fear is always a cause for concern and means that people are not acting from the heart ...

I already mentioned this, but I will restate it here since no one obviously reads anything I say.

Its all the failure of overblown expectations - just like you said.

We do it - you do it.

We get an impression in our mind what something is supposed to be. We glue ourselves to it.

LITERALLY.

So when the failure happens, it is no longer our fault cause so-and-so doesn't live up to our expectations.

Its not that they didn't, it's because WE think they didn't.

Is that their fault?

Not really no, its ours, mine, yours, everyone elses fault.

Expectations, both real and imagined are the failure of the entire human race.

So how do you fix it?

Chunk the expectations. Just try it.

Cheers hon.

I have been Married three times, the third one is my last. I'll tell you something about Women, we can't live with em, and we can't live without em not unless your gay. Each of my wives (The second one is dead now Liver cancer) all of them can change their minds three or four times in a sentence, and you don't where you are with them. They do it to it to confuse you, and i was suitably confused. My second wife drove me to a nervous breakdown, and then had the gall to charge me for the petrol  no really she did. Joking aside the third one stuck by me when i had my Stroke bless her, and i was not the easiest men to live with when i first had it. I wouldn't part with her for the world.
I am what i am.
