I loved Hitchens writing, but this was one of the few thing he ever said that I regard as genuinely illogical. Desperate, even.

It's so subjective. What is funny? It's different for different people.

I'm not exactly a socially gregarious, life of the party type, and I've known more than a few funny women, myself. I won't bother naming quality female comedians. There are enough of them, of all different kinds, that anyone who can brand a whole gender as humourless has a problem themself, not the other way around.

Men are funnier, on the whole...but that is not the title of the thread, and it's not the position that Hitchens took, either.
