America's oil imports from Iraq are not even in the top 5. This will remain that way because of the agreements laid out after the invasion of Iraq. so america will benefiting less than any other western power.

soldierboy, the only presence we will have in iraq will become a peace keeping mission of sorts. More than likely you will see the un forces gradually brought in to take over. Our war machine is on its last leg there.

I dont know Drex, we are told only NON-combatents will remain there. non-combatents
all that means is exactly that.....non combatents, they can be almost anybody in a uniform and we all carry weapons and we are all trained to do exactly what combat troops can do. my opinion is...we will be there for a VERY long time. I know folks who are on orders for next september in Iraq. we are'nt going anywhere fast.

Eh, I'm gonna have to go with the oil is not the major factor here. We will never see enough of the oil ourselves to even out what we have already expended.

I'm not saying we will not have a presence there. Of course we will. The plans are already in motion. the plan is to keep a small force there for security and nation building. The international community will come in once we have gotten our main forces out. Its not a pipe dream its happening. We won't be building the 58 bases that bush wanted but we will have central command bases for all operations though the US and other countries. The UN will use the bases for peace keeping. We can't afford fiscally or politically to have any large number of troops in iraq.

Well, since you put it that way. I agree with you on most points, we will not be running convoy missions from south to north and we wont be breaking in doors but we will have troops there and I dont think the public will know much about the numbers involved.
it wont be anything like the numbers we have now....but its to good of a location to step away from and we do not give up ground very easy once we have it.

jet, no he was responding becuaus (and i could be wrong) he may be chinese..(thinking on older posts..i just cant remember) I posted an apology for what he thought may have been racial implications...
