Was that controversial??? I hope so....

You and I know that a robot is a man made machine... yes we are getting them to resemble and act more and more like humans.. we are humanising the machines which is ok in my opinion. However, we must know at all times that they are just machines and do not have emotions like us, they will never have emotions like us... so swicthing them off is like switching off a good movie on the TV, its like buying the car of your dreams and then leaving it in the rain, sure you feel for it, but they do not feel back... and guess what?? You can always swicth them back on...

Interesting point Iwanci. and a very logical approach.
Logically we are just biological robots. Science is hell bent on proving that we are just the sum of our parts. And there is no soul and no God. So in essence in a scientific approach we are nothing but robots. We now grow biological parts that we are planning to use to replace defective organs.
The human body it self self replicates every cell in out bodies every seven years. So we have in essence already been replaced many times.

Those who are the most educated, those we trust as the greatest minds do not admit to a higher purpose to existence. Well that is not entirely true but I do now if you believe in the spiritual self you are frowned upon by the scientific establishment.

The description of Consciousness is
The state of being awake and aware of one's surroundings.
The awareness or perception of something by a person.

If we create a real AI that is aware of its surroundings and is aware of its actions and its role in society is that not consciousness. So is it therefore a life form.

I agree if you could turn it back on then in essence by turning an AI off it would be like giving a person a sedative and making that person unconscious. No biggy really.

But what if when you turned it off you erased its memories and in essence its personality would this sit comfortably with you?

I know we have steered of track a little as this experiment is showing us how we as humans create in our minds a connection to an inanimate object because it has human features.

But I think the conundrum of switching off as in killing a life form because we can, even a electronic one is an interesting topic.

When I say switching off I do mean killing it.
Of course if it was a momentary shut down it would not hold the same moral implications and would not add to this debate.

But say you killed its individuality but shutting it down would that make you think twice, would it stop you?

Hurtswhenipee you are on a role today my friend.
Another fine example or the moral qustion I am relaying.

Star Trek is for me by far the best tv show I have ever seen.
The moral questions and implications presented in this scifi format have imo are of the highest quality you can find on MSM.
