Hanukkah(8 letters) or Chanukah(8) begins at sunset tonight. It is the eight-day(8) festival(8) that commerates Judah Maccabee, warrior son of the aged priest Mattathias, who dared to lead his small band of fighting men against the mighty Assyrians and defeat them in ~165 BC. As the legend goes, the Jews returned to purge the Jerusalem Temple of its Pagan idols including a statue of Zeus, and rededicate it to G-d. They found that there was only sacred oil enough for one day's burning of the temple lamp, yet, miracously the lamp burned eight full days. Thus began the Feast of Dedication/Feast of Lights and its 8-candle menorah74.
Unfortunately, this story is not found in the Bible. The vast majority of Christians today don't celebrate this holiday(7)74, but shouldn't they?! Why even Y'shua74/Jesus74 observed this festival...
"And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch." - John 10:22-23 (KJV)
The early Roman church leaders went out of their way to separate themselves from the Jews. The Roman Christians chose not to observe Jewish74 holidays and 'replaced' the Jerusalem Temple rededication festival with Christmas (they were stamping out Pagan celebrations of Saturnalia, winter solstice, and Mithra's birth as well) and replaced the eight-day festival of Passover(8) with Easter. And let's not forget that the Romans conquered the Jews in 63 BC and destroyed their temple in 70 AD, so propaganda-wise, they chose not to remember the Dedication Festival.
We all have our agendas both on this forum and outside it. I consider myself Judeo-Christian & omni-religious. I celebrate Hanukkah & Christmas because I know that Y'shua/Jesus did and would now. Happy Hanukkah to everyone!

Epic Failure,
I don't write any fiction. There's another Brad Watson in Mississippi (I think) that IS a fiction writer, but that's why I add Miami, FL to all my posts. I haven't sold any books lately.
The above post is obviously real and for anyone to state the opposite is evil.
Why would anyone substitute Hitler for Jesus in the painting of The Last Supper?

Did you know that the Bible documented Jesus observing Hanukkah? Did you know about the '8-letter thing'? - Redwoodrick

Greetings, friend. It is refreshing to read a post about Yeshua using his Hebrew name. And not a whole lot of folks know anything about Saturnalia and its direct ties to Christmas.Or for that matter, that Yeshua was born in the spring, according to biblical text.
Thank you for the post and never mind the God haters here. They are the product of thousands of years of lies and they know not Whom they hate.
Peace to you.And happy Hannukah

Number 8 is to do with the world to come. Lovely symbol that, 8 the symbol of infinity, like the two fishes in harmony, in equality. One can also view 8 as the 4 fishes in the sphere. The Cosmic family 2+2.

Hanukkah Festival of Lights
We were responding to a blog post about Hanukkah and a Christian said 'The rest of the world could learn a valuable lesson from celebrating Hanukkah, especially America, in the wake of the recent Black Friday stampedes. Is pummeling someone ahead of you while entering a department store in order to get the best deal the new meaning of Christmas?
Our response
Why should there be any annual celebration of giving presents? Is that not just feeding the consumeristic materialism that is the complete opposite to the Christ principles? Is that not why the Christ stood against the Jewish priests? Due to their materialism?
What is the greatest gift?
The spiritual gifts from God that everyone was born with. But yet, humanity allow materialism to keep them in separation from God because they are too busy shopping outside of themselves instead of doing what Christ asked them to do. The Buddhist monks live the Christ principles more than the Christians do. Back to hanukkah the Hindus also celebrate a festival of lights.
