Alien 'Footprints': Scientist Rethinks Hunt for E.T.
If aliens did leave their mark on Earth by some wild likelihood, we could search for the achievable "footprints" of alien technological innovation or even analyze the DNA of terrestrial organisms for indicators of intelligent messages or tinkering. Such a CSI-design forensics search could complement, fairly than substitute, the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) astronomers who continue to look skyward, said Paul Davies, a physicist and cosmologist at Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.
"My proposals intention to spread the stress from a modest band of heroic radio astronomers to the whole scientific community," Davies explained. "Jobs like genomic SETI are an attempt to enhance radio SETI, not undermine it."
Davies would like scientists to broaden their pondering about how aliens could have left behind their mark. To their credit, SETI astronomers have not disregarded the choices outside of extraterrestrials deliberately beaming a concept straight at Earth. Suggestions over the previous fifty years include extraterrestrial radio targeted traffic that occurs to pass by, or a highly effective radio or optical beacon that sweeps the Milky Way galaxy like a lighthouse.
