CIA Director Petraeus resigned for having an 'extramarital affair'

November 9, 2012 - Central Intelligence Agency Director David Petraeus has resigned, citing "extremely poor judgment" for having an extramarital affair.

Petraeus told President Barack Obama of the affair on Thursday and offered to resign, a senior official told NBC News. Obama accepted his resignation in a phone call Friday afternoon.

"Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the President to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position," Petraeus said in a letter to CIA colleagues. "After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours."

"This afternoon, the President graciously accepted my resignation," Petraeus said in the letter.

Mike Morrell, the deputy CIA director and a long time CIA officer, will likely be offered the job as acting director, multiple sources told NBC News.

Really? Having an affair for a Democrat actually enhances your resume. If you do it with someone of your own gender you’re a rock star!! Even I don't care that the head of the CIA cheated on his wife with some hotty. His wife on the other hand probably takes exception to this. The corrupt administration was probably trying to use this info for blackmail against Petraeus to get him to give false testimony in the upcoming Bengahzi inquiry. Petreaus foiled the plot by announcing the affair himself and then resigning. Very clever! It might have saved his life in the process too. It certainly would have saved him from becoming a future tool of Obama with even more material to blackmail him with (lying before Congress, obstruction of justice, etc), which is likely what they had in mind.

I smell a lot of stinky fish! So he resigns over an "affair" a few days after the Big O gets re-elected and a week or so before he is to testify about Bengazi. He's the Director of the CIA and he can't cover up an affair (if he did have one) AND the US has had several presidents who had affairs during office and stayed in office????? The US Gov. is a sham!!! (more than ever, I mean)
