Yohimbe

Yohimbe is the name of the bark of a tall evergreen tree in western Africa known as Pausinystalia or Corynanthe yohimbe. This natural aphrodisiac has been used for centuries in some western African nations for sexual enhancement.  Yohimbe bark has been reported to contain up to 6% total alkaloids, 5-15% of which is yohimbine, an alpha-2-adrenergic blocking agent. In other words, a small percentage of a chemical called yohimbine is found in the bark. Currently yohimbe bark extracts are sold in varying alkaloid concentrations, ranging from plain powder, to 4% extract, 8%, and up to 20%. The higher the concentration of yohimbe extract, the more potent the product will be, and the more likely side effects will occur. But then again, the higher percentage extracts are more effective at a lower dosage.
