The Russian web was ablaze with bizarre theories today at an extraordinary explosion seen by thousands of commuters in St Petersburg. It must have seemed like the end of the world was nigh when motorists driving along this busy motorway saw a huge flash light up the night sky on the horizon. So far, conspiracy theories of martians and bomb-testing have emerged to explain the astonishing sight. However, the reality was far less exciting. The flash was the result of an explosion at an electrical power plant in St Petersburg, in what was described as a 'technical malfunction' by officials. No one was hurt in the incident. "A tidal wave of cotton filling? Some ghostly aerodynamics? A photo of mysterious cloud formations in Panama City Beach, Florida, has the weather world buzzing. Pilot JR Hott of Panhandle Helicopters snapped the spectacular shot, which shows low-lying clouds streaming ominously over high-rise buildings standing sentinel against the Gulf of Mexico. The retired Navy diver, who has owned Panhandle for three and a half years, said he had no idea when he snapped the photo it would demand worldwide attention from the likes of CNN. China joins the ranks of the nations who have successfully deployed deep space projects, with their publication of the first lunar picture. The black and white image showed a rough moon surface with scattered round craters both big and small. The area covered by the picture, about 460 kilometers in length and 280 km in width, is located within a 54 to 70 degrees south latitude and 57 to 83 degrees east longitude. China will provide the data collected to as many scientists as possible. Premier Wen Jiabao (R) unveiled the first picture of the moon, sent back from the lunar probe Chang'e I, in Beijing November 26, 2007. The premier said that the lunar probe was the third milestone in China's space exploration, following the success of man-made satellites and manned space flights. The success, he said, not only manifested China's rising national strength and technical innovation capability, but also elevated the country's international status and cemented national cohesion.

One night I was sitting up on my roof and saw these big bight reddish orange lights in the sky. camera is in night vision so you can't see the colors but they were remarkable. You also see a plane pass by so you know that these are not planes and they don't move.

Does this look like a meteor to you? HOUSTON - A meteor lit up the Texas sky Wednesday night, leaving many people wondering if they just spotted a UFO. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the light in the sky was only a meteor. The meteor was caught on camera during a traffic stop near Belton, Texas. It was spotted as far north as Stillwater, Okla., and as far south as Houston.
