Trump reverses guidance exempting farms, hotels from ICE raids
The Department of Homeland Security has reversed its guidance, allowing ICE to resume immigration raids at farms, hotels, and restaurants. This change comes amid pressure from the White House to increase deportations, despite concerns from the agricultural and hospitality sectors about the impact on their workforce.
Tricia McLaughlin from DHS stated, “There will be no safe spaces for industries who harbor violent criminals.” The reversal follows President Trump’s mixed messages regarding protecting industries reliant on migrant workers.
ICE is under directive to meet high arrest quotas, and industry groups are lobbying for policy changes to alleviate the crackdown. Trump's commitment to mass deportations remains strong, emphasizing that “anyone present in the United States illegally is at risk of deportation.”
