Former EU High Representative Mogherini Arrested in fraud investigation

SUMMARY

Raids occurred on Tuesday at the European Union Diplomatic Service in Brussels and the College of Europe in Bruges amid a fraud investigation involving EU funds.

Three people were arrested, including Federica Mogherini, President of the College of Europe. The investigation examines allegations of favoritism and unfair competition regarding a nine-month training program awarded by the EEAS.

The possible offenses include “fraud in the award of public procurement, corruption, conflict of interest, and violation of professional secrecy.” The European Public Prosecutor’s Office, tasked with combating fraud against EU funds, is leading the investigation with support from Belgian authorities.
