Major flat-earthers conference coming to Edmonton this summer
Flat Earth Society announces major conference this summer.
The Flat Earth Society has announced on Facebook that they will be hosting the first major conference for flat Earth enthusiasts in Edmonton in Canada this summer. Already, it appears that the conference will be a rather popular affair with more than two thousand people expressing that they are interested in attending.
“History will be made in Canada this year, and Edmonton will be put on the flat map, ” reads the Facebook event invitation and it seems that the organiser, Edmonton native Robbie Davidson has high hopes for the gathering stating that he thinks that it will bring the true popularity of the enduring movement into clear light. “I think a lot of us that came to this at first ridiculed and laughed at it… I think right now, there are a lot [of people] out there that believe this, that hasn’t come out of the closet, ” he said.
Speaking to journalists, Davidson expanded on what the conference would dwell on including views of the prevailing scientific views on the shape of the Earth. “We think science is good; we’re not anti-science, ” he said. “A lot of science has moved away from what science is supposed to be; it’s very theoretical. What experiment do you do to prove the curvature of the Earth?” The position of the Flat Earth Society according to Davidson is simply to establish the scientific facts of the matter and that he would abandon the conference and the theory entirely if what he deemed to be a genuine scientific study came to light which proved that the Earth was round. “Until something is 100 per cent verified, I think a lot of people in this community are going to demand different answers, ” he said.
Many would claim that the curvature of the Earth is something which has been proved in replicable scientific experiments many times over, particularly through the satellite images of the planet produced by various space agencies which show a round planet. However, for Davidson and his fellow flat Earth believers, this is not proof enough. Davidson explains that many in the community believe that these images depicting a round Earth are composites or computer-generated images. But what is the purpose of fraudulently proving that the Earth is round? “The most commonly accepted explanation of this is that the space agencies of the world are involved in a conspiracy faking space travel and exploration, ” the Flat Earth Society has previously stated, “This likely began during the Cold War’s ‘Space Race, ’ in which the U.S.S.R. and U.S.A. were obsessed with beating each other into space to the point that each faked their accomplishments in an attempt to keep pace with the other’s supposed achievements.”
