The creator of Telegram, Pavel Durov, said that “over 70 million refugees from other platforms” joined the short messaging service yesterday amid the outage of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The Telegram chief added in a post on Telegram that his service “continued to work flawlessly for the vast majority” of its users yesterday.
Only some “Americas may have experienced slower speed” than usual as “millions of users from these continents rushed to sign up for Telegram at the same time,” Durov claimed.
He then continued to welcome the new users and asked current users of the service to make sure the new arrivals stick around as Telegram is “lightyears ahead of the competition”.
