US planning to build major base near Gaza for international forces

The U.S. plans to build a $500 million military base near the Gaza border, according to Israeli officials. The base would accommodate several thousand troops focused on maintaining the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. This represents a significant change in U.S. involvement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

One official noted, “It’s hard to overstate the significance of building such a base.” Currently, the U.S. military presence in Israel is limited, with about 200 troops deployed following the cease-fire agreement. The new base would expand U.S. activities and could influence humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza, diminishing Israel's role.

The U.S. has not yet commented on the plans.
