FDA warns of heart side effect for young males from COVID vaccine

SUMMARY

The FDA has instructed Pfizer and Moderna to enhance warning labels on their COVID-19 vaccines regarding the potential risk of heart injuries, particularly affecting teen boys and young men. The revised warnings apply to males aged 16 to 25.

Current data indicates a myocarditis and pericarditis rate of around 38 cases per million doses in this demographic after vaccination. Although such heart issues are described as rare, concerns are heightened following a study tracking cases of vaccine-associated myocarditis.

CDC officials acknowledge that while acute myocarditis often resolves quickly, ongoing research is underway to determine any long-term effects. The new warnings were issued just before a Senate hearing on vaccine safety concerns.
