Gardai to call for action on 'citizen journalists' filming officers on duty

Gardaí are calling for protections against "citizen journalists" filming them on duty. During the annual conference of the Association of Sergeants and Inspectors in Co Kerry, members will address concerns about their safety and the impact of social media. A recent report highlighted officers’ fears of abuse after being filmed.

General Secretary Ronan Clogher stated, “Members expressed concern for their family members” due to online exposure. The AGSI seeks Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan’s action on these issues. They also criticize new regulations that limit officers' rights and allow civilians to impose sanctions on them.
