Germany and EU allies back tougher asylum measures, including deportations

SUMMARY

Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt and five European counterparts agreed to stricter asylum measures at a recent meeting. Key decisions include resuming deportations to Afghanistan and Syria and implementing third-country asylum processing. This initiative aims to manage illegal migration and alleviate societal tensions in Europe.

The ministers emphasized the need for tighter border enforcement and plans to combat human trafficking networks. Dobrindt stated,

"We are all concerned that the overburdening of our countries by illegal migration is also contributing massively to the polarisation of society. We want to push back this polarisation."

New policies require EU approval and include removing barriers to transferring rejected asylum seekers to secure centers outside the EU.
