Review warns UK must prepare for potential war in the 'homeland'

The UK must "actively prepare" for the possibility of a wartime scenario in its homeland, according to a new National Security Strategy.

This marks the first time in years that the country has had to consider such a threat, highlighting Russia and Iran as potential adversaries.

Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the need to address ongoing challenges, particularly cyberattacks.

The government will run annual exercises to test the preparedness of the whole of society as part of efforts to rebuild resilience, the new strategy says.

There will also be moves to improve security around critical national infrastructure such as power stations and water supplies as part of what is being called "Home Defence"

It acknowledges that while not all threats can be prevented, efforts will aim to make the UK a "harder target" for adversaries.
