Indonesia's Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupts

Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara erupted on June 17, 2025, throwing an ash cloud 11 kilometers high. The volcanology agency upgraded the volcano's alert level to the highest, cautioning about possible lava flows during heavy rains.

The eruption occurred around 5:35 PM, producing a dense grey ash column. No immediate damage or casualties were reported, but residents are advised to stay at least 7 kilometers away from the crater and wear masks to guard against ash. The volcano had previously erupted multiple times in 2022, resulting in casualties and flight cancellations.
