Google to spend $15 billion on AI data center in biggest India investment

SUMMARY

Google plans to invest $15 billion in an AI data center in Andhra Pradesh, marking its largest investment in India. This announcement comes amid ongoing tensions involving U.S.-India trade issues. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian highlighted the data center as the company's "largest AI hub" outside the U.S., with a vision to support India’s AI mission.

The campus in Visakhapatnam will have an initial capacity of 1 Gigawatt and is expected to create significant economic opportunities. Google is collaborating with Adani Group and Airtel on the project, which also includes building a new international subsea gateway.

Despite facing antitrust challenges, India remains a vital market for Google due to its large user base.
