Larry Summers will resign from Harvard after Jeffrey Epstein revelations
Lawrence Summers will resign from teaching at Harvard at the end of the academic year.
The move comes after Department of Justice documents exposed his close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein long after the convicted sex offender's conviction for prostitution involving a minor.
Summers, on leave since November, will not return to teaching. He has also resigned as co-director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government.
Harvard spokesman Jason Newton confirmed the resignation is in connection with the university's ongoing review of the Epstein documents released by the government. The Harvard Crimson first reported the announcement.
Summers described it as the difficult decision to retire after 50 years at Harvard, starting as a graduate student. He expressed gratitude to thousands of students and colleagues.
As president emeritus and retired professor, he will focus on research, analysis and commentary on global economic issues.
This departure exposes the continuing fallout for high-profile officials linked to Jeffrey Epstein's network.
