US approves $2 billion in arms sales to Taiwan as tensions rise
The U.S. has approved $2 billion in arms sales to Taiwan, including an advanced surface-to-air missile defense system, provoking criticism from China. Taiwan's leadership thanked the U.S. and emphasized the importance of strengthening self-defense amid increasing military threats from China.
Chinese military exercises encircled Taiwan again, signaling heightened tensions since Taiwan’s new president took office.
