Poland must look at acquiring nuclear weapons, says Donald Tusk

SUMMARY

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized the need for the country to consider acquiring nuclear weapons capabilities to face increasing threats from Russia and potential U.S. military withdrawal from Europe. In a speech to parliament, he stated, “it is not enough to purchase conventional weapons."

Following U.S. President Trump's military aid cuts to Ukraine, European countries are reassessing their defense strategies. Tusk noted Poland is in discussions with France about nuclear protection. He also proposed expanding the Polish army to 500,000 troops and introducing mandatory military training.

Poland aims to spend 4.7% of its GDP on defense this year, potentially rising to 5% as suggested by Trump. Tusk expressed confidence in Poland's future security.
