ICJ rules Israel's ban on UNRWA and aid blockade violate international law

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that Israel's ban on the UN's main humanitarian provider, UNRWA, and its restrictions on aid to Palestinians violate international law. The court stated that Israel, as an occupying power, must facilitate humanitarian relief to ensure essential supplies for Palestinians.

By a vote of 10 to 1, the court mandated Israel to agree to and facilitate relief efforts without obstruction. It emphasized that "the UN acting through UNRWA had been an indispensable provider of humanitarian relief." The ruling comes in light of Israel's actions since banning UNRWA in October 2024, which sparked global criticism.
