Hungary's Orban accuses EU of orchestrating 'repulsive' Pride march

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban condemned Saturday's Pride event as "repulsive and shameful," claiming it was orchestrated by the EU to incite opposition against his government. Around 100,000 people defied a police ban to participate, marking one of the largest protests against Orban in years.

Orban accused opposition politicians of being manipulated by "Brussels," asserting they must not regain power. He criticized the Pride march's displays, including drag shows and pamphlets on hormone therapies.

The event was banned under a new law aimed at protecting children, which critics view as an attack on democratic freedoms ahead of the upcoming election. Orban's government has limited LGBTQ+ rights over the past decade, asserting that child protection is paramount.
