Military purge gives Xi total control of Chinese army

China's top general, Zhang Youxia, is under investigation for "serious violations" of discipline, suggesting corruption. Zhang and another official, Liu Zhenli, were key members of the Central Military Commission. Their removal indicates a major shake-up, described as the largest purge since 1949. Despite current instability, experts warn against underestimating future threats to Taiwan, noting that younger leaders may pose new risks.

Xi's recent actions reinforce his control over the military, with analysts stating, “This is not an indicator of flaws in Xi’s power over the PLA.”
