'no flexibility'

Witkoff and Kushner expressed disappointment and cast doubt on value of continuing Iran talks

SUMMARY

Trump’s senior envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner reported that Iran demonstrated no flexibility on uranium enrichment or any other core nuclear issues during extended talks in Geneva.

After nearly a full day of negotiations across two rounds the American team expressed clear disappointment with Tehran’s rigid stance. They openly questioned the value of continuing diplomatic efforts.

While Iranian officials and Omani mediators claimed “significant progress” and positive atmosphere Witkoff and Kushner found the positions fundamentally irreconcilable.

The United States demands a permanent end to all uranium enrichment on Iranian soil the physical transfer of Iran’s entire remaining enriched uranium stockpile to American control and the complete dismantlement of the three main nuclear sites at Fordow Natanz and Isfahan.

Any agreement must contain no sunset clause.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected these central requirements outright insisting enrichment is a sovereign right. Tehran offered a temporary freeze lasting several years tied to sanctions relief and proposed significantly diluting part of its stockpile under international supervision.

Diplomatic sources confirm the gaps between the sides remain extremely wide. This pessimistic assessment from Trump’s lead negotiators has significantly dimmed prospects for a diplomatic breakthrough.
