Germany plans new homeland security army division

Germany's military, the Bundeswehr, plans to establish a new land forces unit focused on securing vital infrastructure within the country "in preparation for possible war," Deutsche Welle reports.

This new division will come under army command starting in April. The initiative is part of a broader reorganization aimed at enhancing defense capabilities amid escalating concerns about Russian aggression following the invasion of Ukraine.

The division will consist of both active soldiers and reservists, with an expected 6,000 personnel by summer. It will protect critical sites such as ports, railways, and digital infrastructure. The force is integral for national security and NATO operations.
