UK-Turkey sign $10.7 billion deal for 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets
SUMMARY
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan signed a deal for Turkey to purchase 20 Eurofighter Typhoon jets for £8 billion ($10.7 billion), enhancing defense ties between the NATO partners.
This agreement follows a preliminary deal for 40 Typhoons earlier this year, approved by the Eurofighter consortium.
Turkey aims to strengthen its air defenses amid regional tensions, particularly with Israel.
Turkey is also exploring acquiring used Typhoons from Qatar and Oman while seeking U.S.-made F-35s to support its aging fleet of F-16s.
Starmer’s visit marked his first trip to Turkey since taking office.
