US warns that China is rapidly developing space-based military technology

China is rapidly advancing its space-based military technology, concerning US officials. Gen Stephen Whiting of the US Space Force noted that China's capabilities for tracking and targeting U.S. and ally forces in the Indo-Pacific are alarming.

China has over 500 satellites for intelligence and reconnaissance and has developed powerful satellite tracking technology. Additionally, it is enhancing counter-weapons that can disrupt or destroy satellites.

Beijing integrates these technologies with its military, making its forces more efficient. While the US has around 8,000 satellites, both nations possess about 250 military satellites. The US risks losing its technological edge if it does not adjust its space operations approach.
