Pentagon approves providing Ukraine Tomahawk missiles, with final decision up to Trump

SUMMARY

The Pentagon has authorized the White House to provide Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles, pending President Trump's final decision. Despite initially expressing reluctance to supply the missiles, Trump later indicated they were still on the table after discussions with Ukrainian President Zelensky.

The missiles can reach targets about 1,000 miles away, which would help Ukraine target deeper into Russia. However, Trump’s recent talks with President Putin influenced his hesitation.

U.S. officials see potential for a workaround to launch the missiles, despite Ukraine's degraded Navy capability. Zelensky aims to enhance Ukraine's long-range capabilities to end the war on favorable terms.
