China's Unitree debuts US$5,900 humanoid robot in race to make cheaper products

SUMMARY

Unitree Robotics has launched the R1 humanoid robot, priced at 39,999 yuan (US$5,900), targeting individual developers and consumers.

The R1, described as "born for sport," can perform a variety of movements, including cartwheels and running downhill. Weighing 25 kilograms with 26 joints, it is the most affordable humanoid robot from the Hangzhou-based company.

Earlier models, the G1 and H1, are significantly pricier. Compared to competitors like UBTech and EngineAI, Unitree's prices are much lower.

Tesla's upcoming Optimus robot may have a higher production cost, but pricing remains uncertain.
