New 4-Star Western Hemisphere Command activated

SUMMARY

U.S. Army Western Hemisphere Command has been activated at Fort Bragg, NC, marking the first four-star operational theater command based in the U.S. Gen. Joseph Ryan leads the new command, which consolidates roles from U.S. Army Forces Command.

Ryan emphasized the need for urgency, stating, “Today starts the clock.” The command will operate with a focus on homeland defense, humanitarian assistance, and support to civil authorities. It aims to reach initial operating capability in February 2026 and full capacity by June 2026 while streamlining processes and improving response capabilities.

This activation follows recent Army reorganizations to enhance operational effectiveness.
