Army divers prioritise training on waterway security and infrastructure
Army divers have been instructed to prioritize enabling troops to effectively cross European waterways and to practice inspecting underwater infrastructure to determine if ships can safely navigate ports and harbors. Army divers went to Germany where they focused on enhancing their skills for crossing waterways and inspecting underwater infrastructure during Exercise Submerged Shield.
Over 130 divers participated, practicing tasks including assessing port conditions. "Movement across water is absolutely key in history," said Lieutenant Colonel Tony Pick. The exercise enabled personnel to gain experience in inspecting underwater rail infrastructure. Staff Sergeant Lee Fantham emphasized, "This is port enablement," highlighting the importance of ensuring safe entry for vessels. With NATO's shift to a wartime mindset, these skills are seen as vital for future operations.
