Over 70% of foreigners visiting Hiroshima feel bombings were unjustified

A recent survey revealed that over 70% of foreign visitors to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum believe the 1945 atomic bombings were unjustified. Of those, 6.2% changed their views after visiting. Among Americans, 13.3% justified the bombings, while 48.5% did not, and 8.2% had a change of heart post-visit.

The museum welcomed over 720,000 foreign visitors in fiscal 2024. Most cited education as their reason for visiting, with 75.4% learning about the bombings in school. Regarding nuclear abolition, 55.6% deemed it necessary, while 35.9% acknowledged difficulties in achieving it.
