Pentagon wants to use AI to create deepfake internet users

The U.S. Special Operations Command is seeking companies to develop deepfake internet users that are virtually undetectable. A procurement document reveals that the Pentagon aims to create believable online personas for social media and other platforms. These synthetic users would feature realistic images, videos, and audio, including "selfie videos" with fake backgrounds.

This initiative follows previous interests in deepfake technology for propaganda and information warfare. Critics point out the hypocrisy of the U.S. military using such technology while condemning similar practices by adversaries.
