Senate votes to end government shutdown, sending funding bill to the House

SUMMARY

The Senate approved a funding measure to end the government shutdown, with an unusual coalition of Democrats and Republicans voting 60 to 40. The deal aims to restore vital services and pay federal workers but did not guarantee an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies.

Eight Senate Democrats crossed party lines to support the measure. The package will now head to the House for a vote, which is targeted for Wednesday.

President Trump expressed optimism about the bill's passage, stating, "I would say so" regarding his approval. Many Democrats are concerned about future funding battles related to health care.
