Navy destroyer HMS Dragon leaves UK to bolster British defences

SUMMARY

The HMS Dragon, a Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer, has departed from Portsmouth to bolster British defenses in the eastern Mediterranean. Preparations, typically taking six weeks, were completed in just six days. Concerns arose about the Government's slow response to Iranian attacks on British interests.

Defence Secretary John Healey praised the crew's efforts, stating, "What is normally six weeks of work was completed in just six days." The destroyer's Sea Viper missile system will help protect UK assets, supported by drone-busting Wildcat helicopters. Commanding Officer Commander Iain Giffin expressed pride in his crew's readiness for the mission.
