As US weapons for Ukraine dry up, Kyiv changes tactics
Ukraine is seeking to enhance its military support from the U.S. by proposing that Europe purchases American weapons for its defense. This comes as the Trump administration has paused some military aid to Ukraine. European nations are exploring the possibility of buying U.S. weapons using their defense budgets, which could count toward NATO spending.
However, U.S. government approval for these transfers will be necessary. With fluctuating U.S. support and ongoing Russian military actions, Ukraine's President Zelenskyy is changing tactics. Although there have been positive discussions with Trump about future aid, the Pentagon’s recent weapon shipment freeze creates uncertainty. European countries struggling to provide critical arms hope to facilitate purchases directly from the U.S. for Ukraine.
