Trump extends deadline for Iran to reopen Strait of Hormuz as Iran denies negotiations with US
Iranian Foreign Ministry has flatly denied President Trump’s claims of peaceful talks, stating verbatim: “There is no dialogue between Tehran and Washington.”
Trump announced on Truth Social he instructed the U.S. military to postpone all strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days.
He claimed the delay followed two days of “VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE” conversations regarding a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST.” The post, written entirely in capital letters, came hours before his own deadline threatening further escalation.
Iran’s Fars news agency immediately rejected the assertion, confirming no direct communication or intermediaries exist.
Tehran added that Trump’s statements form part of efforts to reduce energy prices and buy time for the implementation of his military plans.
Regional countries have floated initiatives to lower tensions. Iran’s response to all of them is clear: “We are not the party that started this war, and all these requests should be referred to Washington.”
The announcement briefly drove Brent crude prices down 13 percent below $100 a barrel before partial recovery to around $105. U.S. stock futures reversed losses to gain more than 2 percent.
This sharp public clash exposes the complete absence of negotiations as the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran enters its fourth week.
