Trump's AI vision advances with Oracle and OpenAI expanding $500B Stargate project

SUMMARY

Oracle and OpenAI have deepened their partnership to advance the Stargate project, committing to an additional 4.5 gigawatts of data center capacity to bolster U.S. AI infrastructure. Announced on July 22, 2025, this expansion aligns with a $500 billion, four-year plan to enhance AI capabilities, expected to generate over 100,000 jobs in operations, construction, and related sectors like manufacturing and local services. The new capacity pushes Stargate’s total to over 5 gigawatts, halfway toward its 10-gigawatt goal.

The Stargate I site in Abilene, Texas, is partially operational, with Oracle delivering Nvidia GB200 racks since June, enabling OpenAI to conduct early AI training and inference tasks. “This investment will create new jobs, accelerate America’s reindustrialization, and help advance U.S. AI leadership,” OpenAI stated, emphasizing the project’s role in strengthening the U.S. economy. The initiative, supported by partners like SoftBank and CoreWeave, has already created thousands of jobs across more than 20 states.

OpenAI credits White House support for driving innovation and competitiveness. “Stargate is OpenAI’s overarching AI infrastructure platform,” the company noted, building on its Microsoft partnership while expanding with Oracle and others to deliver AI advancements nationwide.
