Rubio's State Department revokes 6k+ student visas for 'assault, burglary, terrorism support'

The Trump administration revoked over 6,000 student visas in 2025 for reasons including overstays and participation in illegal activities, particularly in support of terrorism.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that heightened scrutiny was placed on students involved in pro-Palestine protests. Of the revoked visas, around 800 were due to assault incidents, while 200 to 300 were linked to support for groups like Hamas.

The total visa revocations reached approximately 40,000 in 2025, a significant increase compared to 16,000 under the Biden administration. Critics argue this action undermines due process rights. Rubio pledged that visa revocations would continue.
