FDA removing warnings from hormone replacement therapy products

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced the removal of the black box warning on estrogen-based hormone replacement therapy (HRT) products for women. He criticized the medical community for instilling fear in women regarding HRT during menopause. Kennedy said, “That ends today,” as the FDA begins this change. FDA Commissioner Marty Makary emphasized that past studies, like the Women’s Health Initiative, were misrepresented and misled public perception about breast cancer risks associated with HRT.

Urologist Kelly Casperson noted that 30 percent of women avoid HRT due to the warning label. The announcement was positively received by women’s health groups. Experts believe the decision will increase HRT accessibility and empower women to make informed choices about their health.
